About me

While I am born and raised in Mönchengladbach in Germany, the Dutch language has been part of my life from an early age. Like many Germans, my parents were enamoured with the beauty of the coastline of the Netherlands, so we spent many summers at the Dutch beaches. Later in life, I decided to study Biological Psychology in the Netherlands, and met my husband there. Today, I’ve been living in the Netherlands with my husband and daughters for over fifteen years.

After completing my studies I worked as an in-house translator at a publisher in the Human Resource Management sector. My knowledge of industrial – and organizational psychology and assessment psychology proved useful for the purposes of recruitment and career advice.

In 2016 I decided to become a freelance translator. I started working from an office at the edge of the wonderful park Sonsbeek in Arnhem, though currently I am working from an office in my own garden just a stone’s throw away from the historic Hanseatic City of Deventer. As a translator I primarily translate from Dutch and English to my mother tongue German, as well as from German and English to Dutch.

In addition to offering translation services I am also ─ in the tradition of an in-house translator ─ glad to be involved more personally in a company: by providing insight in editorial matters, writing content, and ensuring the necessary translation of cultural minutiae ─ aka localization. Often my work is bolstered by in-depth research into the specific circumstances and target audience of my client.

Services

I offer translations:

English → German
Dutch → German
English → Dutch
German → Dutch

In addition, I provide an array of solutions in language and translations, from direct translation to offering contextual advice and writing ─ for both companies and consumers.

For larger, more complex projects I can work on-site in order to establish a feeling for the company, the subject matter, and to allow for a more direct and efficient channel of communication.
